How to fasten a picture frame to drywall

Proper height for a picture on the wall

The center of the picture should be at eye level of an average height person which is 57 inches from the floor.

Getting the picture frame ready

1.      Fasten Female Snaps to the top back corners of the frame, keeping the opening facing down, like an upside-down ∩.

a.      For wood frames, use the supplied VHB 2-sided tape and M2 screws, or M2 screws only.

b.      Screws only will fasten better as the screws will penetrate the wood deeper.

2.      If the frame is metal, drill holes using a 1/16” drill bit (not supplied) and use M2 screws.

3.      For a heavier frames, fasten Female Snaps to all 4 corners of the frame, like an upside-down ∩.

4.      See instructions “Ways to Fasten Female Snap” for different types of picture frames.

Mark holes on the wall

5.      Put a Male insert and marker screw into each Male Snap, then slide the Male Snaps into the Female Snaps.

6.      Attach the level to a horizontal part (top) of the picture frame. Use tape if necessary.

7.      Make sure the Male Snaps stay fully lodged in the Female Snaps during this alignment and do not slide down.

8.      Lift the frame into position keeping the marker screws from touching the wall until the picture is in position. To keep the marker screw from touching the wall until the frame is level, put your finger between the frame and the wall.

9.      If the picture frame is too large or heavy, then fasten only one corner at a time or get assistance.

10.   Level the picture and then press the top corners firmly to the wall, so a tiny hole is made in the wall.

11.   Rest the picture face down and remove the 2 marker screws. Replace the markers screws in the kit for future use.

Secure the Male Snaps to the wall

12.   Use the supplied Male Inserts and #6 screws to fasten the Male Snaps to the wall.

13.   If there is a wooden stud behind the drywall: (the screw is hard to turn)

a.      Turn the screw clockwise until it is flush with the Male Snap.

14.   If there is no wooden stud behind the drywall: (the screw is easy to turn and keeps turning)

a.      Remove the screw and Male Insert and use the supplied drill bit to make a ¼” hole in the wall.

b.      Using the drywall rivets, fasten the Male Snap to the wall. Use the back of the screwdriver handle to hammer the pin into the rivet until it is flush with the Male Snap.
