Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the proper height for a picture on the wall?

A: The center of the picture should be at eye level of an average height person which is 57 inches from the floor.

Q: How much weight can each Art-Hook hold

A: Using the screws provided and no 2-sided tape, 2 Art-Hooks can hold approximately 2 Kg or 4.4 lbs. Using 4 Art-Hooks (2 at the top and 2 at the bottom) increases the load to 4 Kg or 8.8 lbs. You can experiment with heavier objects at your own risk!

Q: Where do the Female snaps go?

A: The Female Snaps fasten to the top back corners of the frame using the M2 screws and optionally the VHB 2-sided tape. Keep the opening facing down, like an upside-down ∩.

Q: Where do the Male Snaps go?

A: The Male Snaps fasten to the wall using the supplied #6 x 1.5” screws or drywall anchors.

Q: What is the difference between the 2-sided tapes?

A: The dark color is a 3M VHB (very high bond) non removable tape. The clear removable tape is for fastening lighter objects to a wall. We do not recommend using either 2-sided tape on drywall, as it may peel the paper layer off the drywall if removed improperly.

Q: What is the 2-sided tape for?

A: The 2-sided tape can be used to fasten other objects, independent of the art-hooks. For example, you can cut a circle in half and half again. Use the 4 pieces to fasten a paper or cardboard poster.

Q: Can I use the 2-sided tape instead of the screws to attach the Male or Female Snaps?

A: Using the Art-Hooks with 2-sided tape alone, is not recommended as the glue does not stick well to plastic when under force. Under testing conditions, there are 2 forces, gravity and sheer strength acting on the tape. During testing, the heavier objects failed to remain fastened to the wall. If the object you are fastening is light weight, the clear removable 2 sided tape will hold. Use this method at your own discretion.

Q: How do I remove the 2 sided tape?

A: Use a hair dryer of heat gun to soften the tape and remove it slowly.

Q: Can I fasten to glass?

A: Fastening to glass has not been tested.

Q: Should I use the 2-sided tape and the screws on the Female Snaps?

A: Using the VHB 2-sided tape and the screws, makes it easier to attach the Female Snaps to the frame. Using M2 screws only will hold stronger as the screws will penetrate the wood deeper.

Q: How do I fasten heavier frames to the wall?

A: For heavier frames, fasten Female Snaps to all 4 corners of the frame. Be sure to use all the screws or anchors provided.

Q: How do I attach the Female Snaps to a metal picture frame?

A: If the frame is metal, drill holes using a 1/16” drill bit (not supplied) and use M2 screws. Alternately, if the picture is recessed from the frame, the Female Snaps can be fastened tight to the top of the metal frame. The frame will rest on the Art-Hooks increasing the sheer strength.

Q: How do I attach the Snaps to other types of picture frames?

A: We will make a video on Fastening Art-Hooks to different types of picture frames. Stay tuned

Q: What are the drywall anchors for?

A: Use the drywall anchor to fasten the Male Snaps to the wall if there is no wooden stud behind the drywall.

Q: How do I know when to use the #6 screws or the drywall anchors if I don’t have a stud finder?

If the screw is hard to turn, then there is a wooden stud behind the wall. If the screw is easy to turn and keeps turning at the end of travel, then there is no wooden stud in the wall. Remove the screw and replace with the drywall anchor.
